Investigation Launched After Man Found Dead Behind St. Clair Grocery Store
St. Clair, Missouri – A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday morning when the lifeless body of 54-year-old Steven Everhart was discovered behind a local grocery store. Police officers from the St. Clair Police Department were alerted to the unresponsive person just after 6:50 a.m. in the 900 block of Plaza Drive.

Upon their arrival, officers found Everhart lying face down in the snow behind the Country Mart. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called to the scene and sadly confirmed that Everhart had passed away.
Detectives from the police department were immediately dispatched to investigate the circumstances surrounding Everhart’s death. However, upon initial examination, no signs of trauma or foul play were evident. The Franklin County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Authorities interviewed an employee from the neighboring Dollar General store, who reported seeing Everhart the night before at approximately 9 p.m. According to the employee, Everhart was a local homeless individual. The employee explained that when they saw Everhart outside, he appeared to be intoxicated and visibly shaking.
Concerned for his well-being, the employee invited Everhart inside the Dollar General to warm up and provided him with food and a cigarette. Everhart remained in the store until it closed, which was about an hour later. Before leaving, the employee asked Everhart if he had a place to go, to which Everhart vaguely replied that he did, without specifying a location. The last sighting of Everhart was him walking east on Treva Lane.

The investigation into Everhart’s tragic death continues as authorities await the results of the autopsy. The St. Clair community is left mourning the loss of a homeless man who was seeking warmth and shelter on a cold winter’s night.
