Nellore Police Arrest 4 Gang Members in Ganja Smuggling Case, Recover 19.5 kg Worth Rs 9.35 Lakh

Police Arrest 4-Member Gang of Ganja Smugglers in Nellore

In a major crackdown on drug smuggling, the police in Nellore have apprehended a 4-member gang involved in ganja trafficking. The authorities have successfully recovered 19.5 kg of ganja, with an estimated worth of Rs 9.35 lakh, along with a car and four mobile phones from the culprits. This significant operation took place at the Ayyappa Gudi center in the city on Thursday.

The individuals arrested have been identified as S Hemanath (29) of Mangali Street in Nawabpet, currently residing in YSR Nagar in Nellore city; Shaik Rafi (31) of Pragathi Nagar, Podalakuru road; I Ramaraju (25) of Sramik Nagar; and A Madhan Mohan (22) of Nagamamma Colony in Buja Buja Nellore.

Speaking to the media, Additional Superintendent of Police and in-charge SP for Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB), Ch Soujanya, revealed that the police, in preparation for the upcoming elections, were conducting vehicle checks at the Ayyappa Gudi center. It was during this operation that they noticed the accused transporting the contraband in a SKODA car late on Wednesday (January 17).

According to the ASP, the main suspect in this case, S Hemanath, is a vegetable trader at AC Vegetable market in the city. He, along with the three other accused, had procured 19.5 kg of ganja from Jolaput village in Odisha and was selling it in various locations within the city.

It is worth noting that a previous case of ganja smuggling had already been registered against the accused at the Vedayapalem police station on July 11 last year.

Furthermore, the Additional SP provided additional details about the individual members of the gang. Shaik Rafi, one of the arrested, is known to be a drug addict and used to sell ganja in small sachets within the city. He already has three previous cases registered against him. The third accused, I Ramaraju, worked as a car driver for S Hemanath and also faced charges of ganja smuggling. Lastly, A Madhan Mohan, a degree student working as a photographer in a photo studio in the city, was found to be involved in ganja smuggling as well.

This successful operation by the Nellore police highlights their commitment to combating drug trafficking in the region. With the arrests of these individuals and the seizure of a substantial amount of ganja, the authorities have dealt a significant blow to the illegal drug trade..
