BC RCMP Release Name and Photo of Person of Interest in Joel Zimbalatti’s Murder Case

More than two months after the tragic death of Joel Zimbalatti, a 21-year-old found shot to death in a Sparwood trailer, the British Columbia RCMP have finally released the name and photo of a person of interest in the case. Zimbalatti’s mother, Toni Zimbalatti, had pleaded publicly for information about her son’s death, and now there may be some hope for answers.

According to Elk Valley Mounties, one man fled the scene before their arrival, while another was taken into custody but later released without charge. These individuals were initially identified as persons of interest. The man who fled, known by the alias “Slim,” remained elusive after Zimbalatti’s death. However, recent tips have led to his identification.

The RCMP released a photo of Joshua Freeman, stating that all conventional methods of locating him have been exhausted. Freeman was present at the trailer when Zimbalatti was shot, but he fled the scene. He was last seen in the Kimberley area of southeastern B.C., but it is known that he has ties to the Okanagan region.

Staff Sgt. Jason Smart emphasized the importance of speaking with Freeman regarding the investigation, as he is believed to be one of the last people who saw Zimbalatti alive before the fatal incident. The RCMP urges Freeman to come forward and contact the police of jurisdiction if he sees or hears this call for information.

In a heartfelt interview, Toni Zimbalatti described her son as a funny, charismatic, and quick-witted young man. She fondly remembers how Joel adored his blind-deaf chihuahua named Eli, whom he considered his one true love. Joel was known for his generosity and love for his family.

According to Toni, Slim, or Joshua Freeman, had been staying with her son periodically, although she is unsure about the nature of their relationship. She never had the chance to meet Freeman in person.

Joel’s untimely death occurred on the day he was planning to cook Thanksgiving dinner for his family. He was also about to embark on a new job with friends. Toni remembers her son as a happy and caring individual who loved to make people laugh and cook.

While it remains unclear whether Joel’s death resulted from a botched robbery or a tragic accident involving firearms, Toni is determined to seek justice for her son. She believes that her family deserves the truth about what happened to Joel.

Anyone with information regarding Joshua Freeman’s whereabouts is urged to contact the B.C. RCMP Southeast Major Crime Unit at 1-877-987-8477. The investigation is ongoing, and the RCMP hopes that with the public’s help, they can bring closure to this heartbreaking case.
