Man Charged with Murder in Morgantown Stabbing

In a horrifying incident that unfolded on Milton Street in Morgantown earlier this week, a young man has been charged with murder. The suspect, 23-year-old Jonathan Ramirez from Watauga, Texas, was arraigned on Thursday morning before Monongalia County Magistrate Ron Bane. As the investigation progresses, additional details about the incident and subsequent arrest have been made available.
According to court documents, Morgantown Police officers received a distress call reporting a cardiac arrest at 537 Milton St. around 4:39 p.m. However, upon arrival, they were met with a gruesome sight – a male victim with severe stab wounds to his back, neck, and head. Sadly, the victim, identified as 26-year-old Jacob Patrick Lough from Morgantown, was already deceased.
As the authorities worked diligently to gather evidence, it was revealed that Lough’s vehicle was missing from the residence. Fortunately, the vehicle was located later that evening at WVU Temporary Parking Lot 10 on the downtown campus. Through surveillance footage, investigators were able to identify Ramirez as the person who had parked Lough’s vehicle before leaving the scene.
Ramirez was subsequently tracked through various locations, and officers from the University Police Department apprehended him the following day. Remarkably, he was still wearing the same clothing that had been captured on the surveillance footage. Moreover, Ramirez had noticeable cuts on his hands, consistent with the severity of the victim’s injuries. Bandages covering some of these cuts were also found at the crime scene.

In light of these compelling findings, Ramirez has been charged with first- and second-degree murder. He is currently held without bond at North Central Regional Jail, awaiting his preliminary hearing in Monongalia County Magistrate Court, scheduled for January 29.
