Arrests Made in Mesa Carjacking Incident: Joseph Toledo and Iridiane Garcia Identified as Suspects

Mesa, Arizona – Two individuals have been apprehended by Mesa Police following a carjacking incident that initially began as a car sale. Joseph Toledo, 29, and Iridiane Garcia, 23, were identified as the suspects in a statement released on Jan. 18 by Mesa Police officials.

The incident took place on Jan. 17 when a mother and her seven-year-old daughter met with Garcia, who had expressed interest in purchasing the mother’s 2021 red Dodge Charger. The meeting occurred at a bank near Stapley and McKellips, where the car had been listed for sale on an online platform.

During the encounter, the mother was threatened with a gun by Toledo, who demanded that she hand over the vehicle. Acting swiftly, the woman managed to escape with her daughter to safety while Toledo and Garcia fled in the stolen car.

Remarkably, investigators discovered that the phone number used to inquire about the car belonged to Toledo. Additionally, it was determined that the victims had no prior association with the suspects.

Mesa Police officers were able to track down the stolen vehicle to Banner Deer Valley Hospital, where it was found unoccupied. Subsequently, Toledo was located at the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry, where he was checking in with his parole officer. Garcia was also present, waiting for Toledo in a car parked outside the facility.

During the arrest, Garcia revealed that she had the stolen vehicle’s keys and the gun used in the carjacking in her purse. Both Toledo and Garcia are now facing charges for multiple felonies, including armed robbery and theft of means of transportation.

The incident occurred near the intersection of N Stapley Drive and E McKellips Road in Mesa, Arizona. Authorities have shared a map of the area to provide a visual representation of where the incident took place.
