Woman Arrested for Obstructing Murder Investigation in Downtown Salt Lake City

A shocking incident unfolded in Downtown Salt Lake City early Sunday morning when a deceased man was discovered, leading to the arrest of a woman on charges of obstructing a murder investigation. The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Gabriel Vigil, whose untimely death has left the community in mourning.

The Discovery and Investigation

The Salt Lake City Police officers responded to the scene around 2:35 a.m. on January 14 after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found Vigil on the ground, having suffered at least one gunshot wound. Tragically, Vigil succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Law enforcement officials also uncovered evidence of gunfire, with the incident causing damage to a nearby house, fence, and multiple parked cars. Detectives have been tirelessly working to determine the motive behind this senseless act of violence.

Authorities have identified individuals allegedly linked to the incident who were attending a birthday party at the location. It is believed that an argument escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in the fatal shooting. Shockingly, after the shooting occurred, those present at the party, including witnesses, left before the arrival of law enforcement.

The Arrest and Charges

As the investigation progressed, detectives uncovered a suspect who had been impeding their efforts to bring justice to Vigil’s family. Tommi Gallegos, a 23-year-old woman, was taken into custody on charges of obstructing justice. It is alleged that Gallegos provided false statements to hinder, delay, or prevent prosecution in this case.

Gallegos is currently confined at Salt Lake County Jail and is facing one count of obstruction of justice.
