Disease Incidence and Demographic Factors in Northern Xinjiang: A Retrospective Study

Introduction Digestive system diseases are currently the most prevalent health issues affecting the human population. These diseases, particularly those affecting the gastroduodenal region, are primarily caused by dietary patterns characterized by high sugar and fat intake, tobacco consumption, and elevated levels of work and life-related stress. As a result, there has been a steady rise in the incidence of malignant tumors within the digestive tract, with gastroduodenal diseases standing out as the most common among them.

Gastrointestinal diseases rank as the second most prevalent worldwide in terms of both incidence and mortality rates, surpassing various other diseases. This increasing trend has led to a greater focus on gastrointestinal diseases. Endoscopy, which includes gastroscopy and colonoscopy, is the primary method for assessing the gastrointestinal tract.

A retrospective study was conducted in Xinjiang Province, China, which has a diverse population primarily composed of Han, Uyghur, and Kazakh ethnic groups, to analyze the incidence of esophageal-gastrointestinal diseases among 895 patients. The objective was to systematically assess disease incidence in northern Xinjiang, considering key demographic factors.

The study found that among the participants, 48% were males and 52% were females. The average age of the participants was 54.79 years. The age of onset for esophageal, stomach, or intestinal diseases was observed to be between 55 to 60 years for women and between 65 to 70 years for men.

The distribution of gastrointestinal diseases varied among ethnic groups, with the Han ethnic group having the highest prevalence. Chronic non-atrophic gastritis with erosion, duodenal bulb inflammation, chronic non-atrophic gastritis predominantly located in the gastric antrum, and grade A reflux esophagitis were the most common diseases observed.

Principal component analysis was conducted to identify key components of esophageal-gastric-duodenal diseases. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that females had a higher likelihood of developing duodenal bulb inflammation compared to males, and certain ethnic groups had a higher propensity for this disease. Additionally, the risk of developing hiatal hernia increased with advancing age.

In conclusion, digestive system diseases, particularly those affecting the gastroduodenal region, are a significant health concern. This study provides valuable insights into the incidence and demographic factors associated with these diseases in northern Xinjiang, China. These findings can potentially guide prognostic considerations and lifestyle interventions for individuals at risk of developing gastrointestinal diseases..
