Tragic Accident Claims the Life of Fresno Man

In a devastating turn of events, a 78-year-old man from Fresno lost his life in a head-on collision on Millerton Road over the weekend. The victim has been identified as John Tarter by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

Tarter, a beloved member of the community, was behind the wheel of his 2018 white Toyota Tundra pick-up truck, driving east near Marina Driver when the collision occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Reckless Driving Leads to Fatal Crash

According to witnesses who were interviewed by the California Highway Patrol, 35-year-old Ryan Trevino was heading westbound in a 2016 blue Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck when he crossed a solid double yellow line and collided head-on with Tarter’s vehicle. Eyewitnesses also described Trevino’s driving as reckless, adding to the tragedy of the incident.

This is not the first time Trevino has been involved in a DUI incident. In fact, he was previously arrested in October 2023 on DUI charges, as confirmed by Fresno County Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti.

A Life Cut Short, Leaving Behind Grief and Loss

As a result of the collision, John Tarter tragically lost his life at the scene, before he could even be transported to a hospital. Trevino, along with a passenger in Tarter’s truck, sustained severe injuries, according to a report from the California Highway Patrol.

The news of this heartbreaking accident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence, as well as the devastating consequences it can have for innocent lives.
