Kota, January 16: A tragic incident unfolded in Kota on Monday evening when a 12-year-old boy lost his life after his throat was slit by a glass-coated kite string. Surendra Bheel, a bright student of class 5, was enjoying a kite flying session with his friends on the rooftop of his house when the unfortunate incident took place. Despite being rushed to the hospital, doctors declared him dead, leaving his family and friends devastated.
This heartbreaking incident was not an isolated case. Five other individuals, including a 60-year-old man named Ramlal Meena, also fell victim to the banned kite string during the Makar Sankranti festivities. Meena was critically injured when a kite string slashed his neck while he was returning home on his motorcycle in Satur village. He has since received 13 stitches and is currently admitted to a hospital in Kota.

It is worth noting that ahead of the Makar Sankranti festival, district collectors of Kota, Bundi, and Jhalawar had issued orders banning glass-coated strings or Chinese strings. Makar Sankranti, also known as Uttarayan, is a festival traditionally associated with kite flying. However, the use of sharp kite strings has resulted in not only human casualties but also the death of seven birds and injuries to 34 others in Kota city.
The president of an NGO dedicated to providing treatment to injured birds expressed concern over the use of these dangerous strings, emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement of the ban. The incidents in Kota serve as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with kite flying, especially when using glass-coated or Chinese strings.
