Tragic Incident Claims Life of 12-Year-Old Boy in Kota

A quiet neighbourhood in Kota, Rajasthan, was left devastated on Monday evening when a 12-year-old boy lost his life in a horrifying accident. Surendra Bheel, a bright student in class 5, was enjoying a day of kite flying with his friends on the rooftop of his house. Little did he know that this innocent pastime would turn into a tragedy.

As the sun began to set and the kites soared higher, a glass-coated kite string unexpectedly slit Surendra’s throat. The young boy was rushed to the nearest hospital, where doctors, with heavy hearts, declared him dead. The entire community was left in shock and mourning the loss of a young life filled with promise.

Unfortunately, Surendra was not the only victim of this dangerous kite string. Five other individuals, including a 60-year-old man named Ramlal Meena, suffered critical injuries on Makar Sankranti, a festival traditionally associated with kite flying. Mr Meena, while returning home on his motorcycle, fell prey to the deadly string, which slashed his neck. He was immediately taken to a hospital in Kota, where he received 13 stitches. His family anxiously waits for his recovery, praying for his well-being.

In an effort to prevent such tragic incidents, district collectors of Kota, Bundi, and Jhalawar had issued orders banning the use of glass-coated strings or Chinese strings. However, despite these directives, the dangerous strings continued to cause harm.

The consequences of these lethal strings extended beyond human casualties. In Kota city alone, seven birds lost their lives, and 34 others were left injured. An NGO dedicated to providing treatment to injured birds has been working tirelessly to help these innocent creatures.

As the community mourns the loss of a young boy and prays for the recovery of those injured, it is a stark reminder of the need for greater awareness and stricter enforcement of safety measures during festive occasions. The joy of kite flying should not come at the cost of precious lives. Let us all reflect on this tragedy and work towards ensuring a safer and happier future for everyone..
