Upon receiving a notification from a security company about the burglary in progress, deputies swiftly arrived at the scene and discovered the suspects actively engaged in the crime. Two of the suspects, identified as 21-year-old Jerdale Ruth and 18-year-old Romel Strahan, were taken into custody immediately. However, the third suspect, 24-year-old Mystic Winston, attempted to flee the area in a stolen vehicle from Georgia.

According to the SBSD statement, one deputy valiantly attempted to prevent Winston from escaping by struggling with him at the driver’s door. Unfortunately, Winston managed to start the vehicle and shifted gears, causing it to lurch forward and collide with a parked SBSD patrol vehicle. Despite the deputy’s efforts, he was dragged by the vehicle for approximately 30 feet before losing his grip and falling to the pavement.

After a brief pursuit, Winston lost control of the stolen vehicle on the westbound lanes of the 60 Freeway near Rowland Heights. Deputies were able to apprehend him shortly after, bringing an end to the dangerous chase.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies made a startling discovery. Inside, they found a safe and various pharmaceutical products that were determined to be from a separate and unrelated burglary.
