Florida Man Arrested for Trespassing While Wearing Underwear as a Face Mask

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – A bizarre incident unfolded in Lee County last week when a Florida man was apprehended by police for trespassing in someone’s backyard while wearing a pair of underwear around his neck. The Cape Coral Police Department received a call on Thursday evening regarding a suspicious individual in the 2000 block of Everest Parkway.

According to the caller, a man was spotted near their dock, donning a gray hoodie, black shorts, and a dark mask covering his face. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Troy Stuart, lying face down between a tall hedge and thick brush near the seawall.

Interestingly, Stuart was indeed wearing the same outfit described by the caller, including the unconventional choice of a pair of dark blue underwear worn around his neck. When questioned by the police, Stuart claimed that he had been running along the canal for exercise, using the underwear as a makeshift face mask to protect himself from the cold.

However, Stuart added that he had been confronted by two other men, prompting him to flee and hide in the empty lot where he was eventually found. The police interviewed the two men who had confronted Stuart, both of whom lived along Everest Parkway. One of the residents stated that the suspect had walked through his backyard, and when confronted, Stuart removed his hood to reveal his identity before running away.

In a surprising turn of events, one of the neighbors mentioned that they had reported the theft of their bonsai plants, valued at approximately $7,000, earlier in the month. Surveillance footage showed a suspect matching Stuart’s description approaching the bonsai plants before abruptly leaving the scene.

Following the incident, investigators searched Stuart’s residence and discovered several bonsai plants, although they did not match the exact description of the stolen ones. Stuart claimed to have no knowledge of the theft, and a tall fence prevented the officers from seeing into the backyard.

Stuart was charged with loitering and subsequently released on a $150 bond. His court hearing is scheduled for January 30th at 8 a.m.
