Multiple Vehicle Crash on Trinity River Bridge Results in Fatality and Injuries

A tragic multiple vehicle crash occurred on Tuesday, January 15, around 8:20 a.m. on U.S. Highway 59 south, specifically on the Trinity River Bridge in San Jacinto County, Texas. The crash, which involved several vehicles, resulted in the death of one woman and multiple injuries.

The initial investigation conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reveals that the crash involved a Toyota Tundra, a Volkswagen Beetle, a Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer, and an International truck tractor semi-trailer. According to the DPS news release, the Toyota Tundra lost control, leading to a collision with the Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer, which subsequently struck the Volkswagen Beetle.

The driver of the Toyota Tundra sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment. Following this initial crash, a second collision occurred when an International truck tractor semi-trailer decelerated and was hit by a Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of this second crash.

A third crash transpired when a Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer came to a stop on the road. In an attempt to avoid colliding with the Peterbilt, a Chevrolet Silverado veered left but ended up hitting the rear of the International truck involved in the second crash. Again, no injuries were reported after this third crash.

In the aftermath of the third crash, a Toyota Rav4 was rear-ended by a Chevrolet Impala, setting off a chain reaction involving a Ford F-150. Additionally, a Kenworth truck tractor semi-trailer managed to safely maneuver to the left to avoid the collision but was unfortunately struck by a Nissan. As per the release, a passenger in the Ford exited the vehicle and became pinned between the Ford and a Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer when it was hit from behind.

The driver of the Chevrolet Impala, identified as 44-year-old Jaqueline Teeters of Livingston, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the Ford, 37-year-old Drew Broom of Jasper, and his passenger, Selina Gilchriest, were both transported to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital. Tragically, Gilchriest succumbed to her injuries sustained during the crash.

An 8-year-old child who was also in the car was transported to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
