Waite Park Man Sentenced for Exposing Himself to Children

A Waite Park man, Eduardo Antonio Lopez, has been sentenced to six days in jail and ordered to pay a small fine after exposing himself to children. This is not the first time Lopez has engaged in such behavior, making this case even more concerning.

According to court documents, on October 11th, 2021, two fourteen-year-old girls were at a park off Maine Prairie Road in St. Cloud when they noticed Lopez in a truck, staring at kids playing. To their shock, they realized he was completely naked. Reacting quickly, they took pictures of the man, which later helped in identifying him. When police questioned Lopez, he denied any wrongdoing.

However, that same day, another incident occurred at an apartment building in Waite Park. A woman and her 14-year-old daughter reported that Lopez had exposed himself to them. The woman, who is not a native English speaker, struggled to find the right words to describe what she witnessed. She explained to the officers that she saw Lopez in the hallway, holding his “thing.” This was not the first time he had done such a thing in their building.

The daughter confirmed her mother’s account, stating that she too saw Lopez exposing himself. She expressed deep concern, especially because there were children living in the building.

When police confronted Lopez, he continued to deny the allegations but admitted to using drugs earlier in the day. During his arrest, officers also found a glass pipe commonly used for smoking narcotics in his possession.

In a plea deal, Lopez pleaded guilty to two gross misdemeanor counts of 5th-degree criminal sexual conduct with minors present and one gross misdemeanor count of indecent exposure lewdness. Another charge of indecent exposure and drug possession was dismissed.

During the sentencing, Judge Heidi Schultz handed down a one-year jail term for Lopez. However, she suspended all but the six days he had already served. Additionally, Lopez was fined $689.

This case highlights the importance of protecting children from individuals like Lopez who engage in inappropriate behavior. It is crucial for communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities promptly.
