Tragic Lift Accident Claims Woman’s Life in Coimbatore Workshop

In a horrifying incident that has left the residents of Coimbatore city in shock, a woman lost her life while her co-worker suffered severe injuries after a lift crashed in a private engineering workshop on Friday night.

Victim Identified: V Latha, a Dedicated Wife and Helper

The deceased woman has been identified as V Latha, a 45-year-old dedicated wife and resident of MGR Nagar on the Madukkarai Road. Latha, known for her hard work and commitment, was working as a helper at the private engineering workshop. Her co-worker, K Kushbu, also from the same locality, sustained fractures on both her legs and injuries on her hands.

A Terrifying Mishap During Routine Work

The incident occurred around 7.30 pm when Latha and Kushbu were using the lift to transport iron materials from the first floor to the ground floor. Unfortunately, the lift crashed on the ground floor as the cables snapped, resulting in a tragic turn of events. Machine operator U Parthiban, who was on the ground floor at the time, discovered Latha in an unconscious state with bleeding injuries.

Latha’s Tragic Demise and Kushbu’s Stable Condition

Both women were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Doctors at the private hospital in Sundarapuram, where Latha was taken, declared her dead. Kushbu, on the other hand, was shifted to an orthopedic hospital in Coimbatore city, and her condition is reported to be stable, according to police sources.

Negligence and Failed Repairs: Workshop Owner Under Scrutiny

According to Parthiban’s statement to the Sundarapuram police, the cables of the lift had been identified as damaged two weeks prior to the accident. Parthiban had informed the workshop owner, Kathirvel, about the issue, who assured him that repairs would be carried out promptly. However, the repairs were not executed, leading to this tragic mishap. As a result, Sundarapuram police have registered a case against Kathirvel for his alleged negligence.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of regular maintenance and prompt action when it comes to the safety of machinery and equipment in workplaces. Authorities and concerned parties must ensure that such incidents are thoroughly investigated, and necessary steps are taken to prevent similar accidents in the future.
