California Woman Arrested for Fatally Stabbing Mother During Facebook Live Broadcast

A shocking incident unfolded in San Rafael, California, as a 28-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly stabbing her mother to death while streaming the gruesome act on Facebook Live. The accused, Tonantzyn Oris Beltran, was swiftly apprehended by the authorities on January 8 and now faces charges of murder, according to Marin County online booking records.

The San Rafael Police Department received reports from concerned witnesses and those who had viewed Beltran’s distressing video on Facebook Live, prompting them to rush to the scene. The police discovered Beltran on the balcony of her Terra Linda apartment complex, clutching a knife. Standing next to her was her 55-year-old mother, Olivia Lucia Beltran Pacheco, who had suffered multiple stab wounds, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Tragically, Pacheco succumbed to her injuries after being rushed to a nearby hospital. She was a revered community activist known for her work in helping immigrants in San Rafael’s Canal neighborhood. Pacheco served as an outreach coordinator and bilingual associate director at the Canal Welcome Center, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and dedication to her community, as reported by the Marin Independent Journal.

During the arrest, Beltran displayed a lack of responsiveness to the officers’ commands and directions, further adding to the complexity of the situation. Meta, the parent company of Facebook, cooperated with law enforcement by promptly removing the distressing video from their platform.

Beltran’s arraignment, initially scheduled for Thursday in Marin County Superior Court, has been postponed to February 2 at the request of her public defender. She currently remains in jail without bail, according to online records.

In a statement to reporters, Arian, a representative of the San Rafael Police Department, expressed the tragic nature of the incident and acknowledged the significant impact Pacheco had on the community.
