Body of Missing Man Found in Manipur, Fuels Demand for Change in Security Forces

The bullet-riddled body of a man who had been missing since January 10 was discovered on Saturday in Bishnupur district, Manipur. The man, identified as Dara Singh of Akasoi in Bishnupur, had gone with three others to collect firewood from a hill in nearby Churachandpur district. The bodies of the other three individuals, Ibomcha Singh, his son Anand Singh, and Romen Singh, were found earlier in Haotak Phailen, also in Churachandpur district, with similar gunshot wounds.

Ahanthem’s body was located a few meters from where the other three bodies were found. His body displayed headshots, marks of assault on the face, and a completely fractured and disfigured thigh bone. It has been sent for post-mortem examination.

These four murders have sparked demands from locals for a change in security forces. Jaya Khagembam, a social activist, stated, “We demand that CM N Biren Singh be made the chief of the unified command. We don’t trust central forces anymore.”

The discovery of the missing man’s body has intensified calls for a replacement of central forces with state troopers. Locals believe that the state troopers will be more effective in ensuring the safety and security of the region.
