A Woman Dies After Falling Nearly 100 Feet in Virginia Cave
A tragic incident unfolded in Virginia as a woman lost her life after falling almost 100 feet within a cave. The victim has been identified as Autumn Nicole Draper, a 38-year-old resident of Fairlawn, Virginia.
The incident was reported to the Giles County Sheriff’s Office on Friday at approximately 4:13 p.m. A 911 call alerted authorities about a woman who had fallen into a cave near Pearisburg, as stated in a news release by the county’s emergency services.

The Pearisburg Fire Department and the Giles Rescue Squad quickly responded to the distress call. Recognizing the complexity of the situation, the Celco Emergency Response Team and the Blacksburg Rescue Squad’s Technical Rescue Cave team were called in to assist in the rescue efforts.
After making their way into the cave, rescue crews tragically discovered the lifeless body of Autumn Nicole Draper. The release mentioned that she was extricated from the cave by the dedicated personnel working on the incident.
The rescue operation continued for several hours, and it was not until around 1 a.m. on Saturday that the scene was finally cleared. The sheriff’s office is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this devastating incident.
Pearisburg, located in Giles County near the Virginia/West Virginia state line, is approximately 25 miles west of Blacksburg. Virginia, known for its natural wonders, boasts over 4,000 caves, according to the commonwealth’s Department of Energy.
