In a Tragic Incident, Three Killed and One Critically Injured as Vehicle Plunges into Gorge in Sikkim
Gangtok: A devastating accident in Sikkim’s Namchi district has claimed the lives of three individuals and left one critically injured after a speeding vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge. The incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday when the vehicle was en route to Neeya Village from Yangang town.
A police official reported that the tragic incident took place at Zero Dara area near Neeya village. The vehicle lost control and skidded off the road, hurtling down into the treacherous gorge. Promptly, locals and authorities rushed to the scene and launched a rescue operation. Despite their valiant efforts, three of the four occupants succumbed to their injuries, while the remaining survivor is currently receiving treatment at the STNM Hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Lakpa Sherpa (45), Sonam Sherpa (50), and Palden Sherpa (16). Their lifeless bodies were transferred to a nearby mortuary, evoking profound grief and sadness within the community. Meanwhile, the injured individual’s condition is being closely monitored by medical professionals.
Speaking about the incident, the police official said, “The vehicle careened off the road and plunged into the gorge at Zero Dara area near Neeya village. Among the four occupants, three locals from Yangang tragically lost their lives, while the fourth individual sustained critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the STNM Hospital.”
An extensive investigation is now underway to determine the cause of this heart-wrenching accident, seeking to shed light on the circumstances that led to the vehicle’s fatal descent into the gorge.
