Man Arrested in Phulwari Sharif Rape and Murder Case Identified as Serial Offender
In a shocking turn of events, the Patna police have revealed that the man arrested in connection with the rape and murder of two minors in Phulwari Sharif is a serial offender. The 50-year-old man, identified as Devanand Rai alias Bhoklu, had previously committed a similar heinous crime, raping and killing a 72-year-old woman in the same area. The incident came to light on January 9 when the body of an eight-year-old girl was discovered in a field at Hinduni village. Her 12-year-old friend was found nearby, unconscious and is currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS in Patna. The autopsy report confirmed that the eight-year-old girl had been raped, while the medical report of the injured girl, although not clear, indicated assault.
During the course of their investigation, the police recovered blood-stained bricks from the crime scene, which were used in the murder. Based on statements from several minor girls and women in the village, the police zeroed in on Devanand Rai as the prime suspect. Rai eventually confessed to the crime during interrogation and revealed chilling details of his modus operandi.
According to the Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) and DIG Rajeev Mishra, Rai lured the two minor girls to an isolated location on the outskirts of the village under the pretext of supplying cow dung. After committing the rape, he viciously attacked both girls to destroy evidence and left them for dead. Rai believed that both victims were deceased.
In a shocking revelation, Rai also confessed to the murder of a 72-year-old woman named Basu Devi in Hinduni village on April 19, 2023. He admitted to battering her head with bricks. Previously, the police had detained Basu Devi’s husband Chotan Paswan on suspicion of killing her for infidelity. However, Paswan was later released due to the lack of corroborative evidence.
