Ahanthem Dara’s Body Found: Fourth Missing Person Recovered in Manipur

In a tragic incident, the body of Ahanthem Dara, a missing person who ventured into the forests of Manipur’s Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts to collect firewood, has been recovered. The discovery was made on Saturday by a police team from Kumbi police station in the Haotak Mapalok Chakpi Ching area.

The deceased, identified as 55-year-old Ahanthem Dara from Wangoo Sabal Akasoi area under Kumbi police station, had gone into the forest along with three others, Th Ibomcha (51), his son Anand (20), and Oinam Romen (38), all from Wangoo Terakhong Akasoi area, on January 10. Unfortunately, three of them were found dead the next day during a search in the Haotak Mapallok Chakpi ching area.

However, the fate of Dara remained unknown until his mortal remains were discovered on Saturday. The people familiar with the matter suspect the involvement of unidentified armed miscreants in their killing, although the official reason behind the unfortunate incident is yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, Jaya Khangembam, a social activist from Kumbi area in Bishnupur district, has demanded the removal of central forces deployed in the Kumbi-Haotak area. She believes that their presence does not provide adequate security to the villagers and called for the deployment of state forces instead.

The state police had earlier stated that efforts were being made to search for the missing person and flush out armed miscreants from the area. It should be noted that Manipur has been witnessing ethnic conflict since the first week of May, which has resulted in the loss of over 180 lives and displacement of nearly 60,000 people.

The body of Ahanthem Dara has been evacuated to a mortuary of a government hospital in Imphal, where further investigations will take place to determine the circumstances surrounding his death. Authorities are committed to bringing justice to the victims and ensuring the safety of the local communities.
