Nepal News: A tragic bus accident in the Dang District of mid-western Nepal has claimed the lives of twelve people, including two Indian nationals. The incident occurred late on Friday night at Bhalubang when a passenger bus plunged into the Rapti river in Nepal’s Lumbini province, according to officials.

The bus, which was traveling from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu, veered off the Rapti bridge in Bhalubang and fell into the river along the East-West Highway. “We have only identified eight of the deceased passengers so far, which includes two Indians,” said Ujjwal Bahadur Singh, Chief Inspector of Police at the Area Police Office, Bhalubang, in a conversation with news agency ANI.

The two Indian victims have been identified as Yogendra Ram (67) from Malahi, Bihar, and Mune (31) from Uttar Pradesh. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Lamahi Hospital for postmortem examination. Meanwhile, the 23 injured individuals have been rushed to a hospital in Nepalgunj for treatment.

Deputy Inspector of Police Sundar Tiwari stated, “All the injured were rushed to the Nepalgunj Medical Teaching Hospital in Kohalpur for treatment.” The authorities have taken the bus driver, Lal Bahadur Nepali, 28, into custody for investigation. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined.
