Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing Shurvonn Byrd in Scioto County: Latest Updates on the Case

SCIOTO COUNTY, OH (WOWK) – A 73-year-old man from West Portsmouth has been arrested for allegedly committing the murder of a woman in Scioto County. The suspect, Danny Vanhoose, is facing charges of aggravated murder, a first-degree felony. He is currently in custody and is being held without bond, according to Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman.

The incident was reported to the authorities around 11:55 a.m. on Thursday. A distressed woman informed the 911 communication officer that she had found her daughter dead, covered in blood, inside her friend’s home. As a precautionary measure, the caller was advised to leave the premises for her own safety. Law enforcement officers responded promptly to the distress call.

Upon arriving at the scene, authorities discovered and apprehended a man within the residence. Following interviews with multiple witnesses, including the man in question, he was arrested without any resistance. The sheriff disclosed that the suspect, Vanhoose, had been acquainted with the victim’s mother for the past three decades.

The victim, identified as 40-year-old Shurvonn Byrd from West Portsmouth, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body has been transferred to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for a thorough autopsy, as per Sheriff Thoroughman.
