Kalamazoo Man Arrested After Attempting to Hide on Roof of Building

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A Kalamazoo man was apprehended by police early Wednesday morning for multiple felonies after he was discovered attempting to conceal himself on the roof of a four-story building.

Kalamazoo Public Safety officers, while on patrol in Kalamazoo Township on January 10th just before 5:30 a.m., stumbled upon a stolen car hidden behind a house. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time of discovery.

In an effort to capture the suspect, the Department of Public Safety deployed its K9 team and aviation unit. Accompanied by K9 handler Baar and K9 Blu, they successfully tracked the suspect’s scent to an apartment building located in the 100 block of W Dutton Street. Meanwhile, the aviation unit, hovering above, spotted the suspect’s attempt to hide on the roof of the four-story structure.

With officers surrounding the building, the aviation unit continued to monitor the suspect’s movements. Realizing the imminent capture, the suspect slid off the roof and sought refuge on a small ledge on the side of the building. Law enforcement personnel, positioned near the ledge, were able to persuade the suspect to surrender.

Authorities have identified the suspect as a 28-year-old man from Kalamazoo. He has been arrested on multiple charges, including Breaking and Entering, Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property, and Obstructing a Police Officer.

The case has been forwarded to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office for review and further legal action.
