A man tragically lost his life after crashing into a guardrail on Interstate-74 in High Point, North Carolina. According to a news release from the High Point Police Department, the man, identified as Eric L. Morrison Jr., 33, was thrown from his vehicle and found at the bottom of a steep embankment.
The incident began with a hit-and-run crash at Wendover Avenue and Penny Road. A witness provided officers with a vehicle description and tag number. Shortly after, officers responded to another crash at I-74W and Johnson Street, where they determined that the suspect’s vehicle was the same one involved in the hit-and-run. However, the suspect was not present at the scene.

Efforts to locate Morrison began on Monday when his family filed a missing person report. On Wednesday, the High Point Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, along with the assistance of the High Point Parks & Recreation Rangers and the HPPD’s Drone Team, conducted a search near where a K-9 track had ended. It was during this search that a member of a private search party discovered Morrison’s body at the bottom of a steep embankment.
Investigators determined that Morrison lost control of his vehicle while coming up the exit ramp, causing him to run off the side of the road and collide with the guardrail. His head struck part of the guardrail, resulting in instant death. His body was found approximately 75 feet away from the initial impact.
Further investigation revealed that Morrison’s vehicle traveled about 250 feet up the road after hitting the guardrail, where it collided with another vehicle at the top of the ramp.
This tragic incident marks High Point’s first traffic fatality of 2024. The High Point Police Department is continuing its investigation into the crash.
