Edmonds Uber Driver Abdulkadir Shariif Gedi Shot to Death in Random Attack: New Court Documents

Edmonds Police Department (EPD) has released new court documents shedding light on the events leading up to the fatal shooting of a local Uber driver in Edmonds, Washington. According to the documents, the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Alex M. Waggoner, was nearly struck by the victim, Abdulkadir Shariif Gedi, as he crossed a crosswalk on Edmonds Way. Gedi was reportedly distracted by his phone at the time of the incident, which was captured on the interior camera of his vehicle.

Eyewitnesses reported that Waggoner had to quickly move forward to avoid being hit by Gedi’s car. In response, Waggoner allegedly shouted expletives at the driver. Gedi rolled down his window, seemingly attempting to apologize, when Waggoner began firing multiple rounds at him, according to the court documents.

Upon investigation, the police found two loaded pistols and body armor in Waggoner’s possession. During questioning, he admitted to consuming alcohol that night and confessed to shooting the driver, expressing remorse for his actions.

Waggoner has a history of involvement with the Edmonds PD, with more than 10 reported incidents since October 2020. These include verbal domestic disputes and one arrest for domestic violence assault in 2020. Police described Waggoner as someone who could “fly off the handle at any moment.”

Waggoner has been booked for second-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday at 1 p.m.

The Edmonds Police Department will hold a live press conference at 2:30 p.m. PT to address the incident. The conference will be streamed on their official website.
