(KRON) — An avalanche occurred at Palisades Tahoe on Wednesday morning, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to three others. The incident took place on the Palisades side of the ski resort, prompting a search by patrol and mountain operations teams. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office initially reported one fatality and one injury, but later confirmed the death of a 66-year-old Bay Area man named Kenneth Kidd. The injured individuals are expected to recover from their non-life-threatening injuries.

The avalanche forced Palisades Tahoe to close just 30 minutes after opening for the day. Deputies from the Placer County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene, and although there were no confirmed reports of anyone trapped, search teams thoroughly assessed the area. The National Weather Service noted that the region was experiencing a strong winter storm, leading to heavy snowfall that likely contributed to the avalanche.
