On August 3, 1986, several citizens spotted a partially submerged body in Crater Lake and immediately alerted the authorities. An autopsy later confirmed that the victim had died from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to identify the victim in 1986, he remained nameless until now.

Othram Lab in The Woodlands successfully extracted more DNA and began a genealogy assessment.

In October 2023, Othram Lab issued a report confirming the familial match between the unknown remains and a family member in California. The body was identified as Clarence Lynn Wilson, born on February 18, 1952, with a last known address in Texas City, Texas. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is now actively investigating Wilson’s death as a homicide.
