Stakes stand just to the side of a common grave at the San Rafael Municipal Cemetery in Juárez, Mexico. This cemetery has become the final resting place for hundreds of unidentified migrants who lost their lives in their journey for a better life. To accommodate the increasing number of unidentified bodies, an additional plot of land has been designated just south of the original common grave.

Grave 2241 is marked with a stake, signifying that it is a burial site for unidentified bodies. Among the stakes, there are a few crosses bearing the names of loved ones who have been successfully identified. However, for unknown reasons, these bodies were not exhumed from the common grave.

One lone cross stands amidst the stakes, indicating that a body might have been successfully identified, but was not exhumed. The reasons for this decision remain a mystery.

Tragically, the issue of unidentified migrant bodies is not an isolated incident. Just recently, two migrants from Central America, Elvis Enrique Barrientos de la Rosa and Margarito Canto Juarez, were killed in a shooting while Mexican soldiers pursued a smuggler’s vehicle on the Mexico side of the border. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by migrants seeking a better life.

In addition to the challenges migrants face during their journey, once they reach the border, they are often met with further obstacles. Migrants have been camped outside a migrant facility where 40 individuals lost their lives in a fire. Municipal police have recently begun removing these migrants from the area.

Furthermore, a migrant pleads with Texas National Guard to allow his family to pass the concertina wire on the embankment of the Rio Grande. However, they were refused further access to U.S. territory.
