Golaghat (Assam), Dec 11 – In Golaghat district of Assam, a suspected robber was fatally shot by the police while attempting to flee from custody, according to an officer on Monday.

The incident occurred on Sunday night when the 26-year-old man, identified as Dilip Sahani, also known as Lagan, was being transported to a location in Dergaon for further investigation, stated the police officer.

The officer explained that the suspect suddenly pushed some policemen and made an attempt to escape from custody. Despite being warned to halt, he disregarded the warning. Consequently, the police were left with no choice but to fire one round at him.

Immediate medical assistance was provided to the injured individual, who was rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, doctors pronounced him dead shortly after his arrival. The officer mentioned that further investigation into the incident is currently underway.
