Shane James, Suspect in Deadly Austin Shooting Spree, Faces 10 Charges, Including Multiple Capital Murder | KXAN News

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The suspect in the deadly shooting spree that occurred in Austin and Bexar County, Shane James, 34, is now facing 10 charges, including multiple capital murder and aggravated assault charges, according to court records.

During a series of violent incidents on December 4th and 5th, James is accused of killing six people and injuring three others.

Travis County records indicate that James has been charged with several offenses, including capital murder by terror threat or other felony, capital murder of multiple persons, and aggravated assault against public servants. Additionally, he faces charges for out-of-county misdemeanors.

The Austin Police Department has identified four homicide victims who are believed to be connected to James. Emmanuel Pop Ba, 32, and Sabrina Rahman, 24, were found deceased at a residence on Shadywood Drive in south Austin. They displayed signs of trauma. In a separate incident, Katherine Short, 56, and Lauren Short, 30, were also found dead.

Two law enforcement officers were shot during the incidents. An Austin Independent School District officer was shot outside of Northeast Early College High School, while an Austin police officer was involved in a shooting near the home of Katherine and Lauren Short. Both officers have been released from the hospital and are in recovery.

A cyclist also sustained non-life-threatening injuries from a shooting on Slaughter Lane around 5 p.m. on December 5th.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has tentatively identified the victims of a double homicide near San Antonio as Phyllis James, 55, and Shane James, Sr., 56, who are believed to be the suspect’s parents.

The aggravated assault charges against James are all first-degree felonies, according to Travis County records.

As the investigation into the shooting spree continues, authorities are working to gather further evidence and determine the motive behind these tragic incidents.
