Remembering Aziariah Brownlee: Friends and Family Gather to Honor Recent Homicide Victim

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) – Friends and family gathered on Sunday evening to remember and honor Aziariah Brownlee, who tragically lost her life on Friday night. The Columbia Police Department has arrested John Lonce Williamson III, 27, of Columbia in connection with her death.

Williamson has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department. The alleged incident took place at 10 p.m. on Friday in the 1500 block of Typhoon Court, where officers found Brownlee suffering from life-threatening injuries.

The local community has expressed deep concern over the increasing violence and called for an end to it. Reverend James Gray spoke out against the prevailing violence, stating, “A child should never have to lose their mother, especially in such a violent manner. There has been far too much violence in our community, and we must put a stop to it.”

During the gathering, attendees wore shirts featuring Brownlee’s image or dressed in purple as a symbol of remembrance and unity. Many spoke of Brownlee’s kind and caring nature, highlighting her role as a devoted mother to her daughter, Zarionna.

Monica Simmons, a close friend, shared, “She was a beautiful person who loved her daughter unconditionally. She really did.” Emotions ran high as loved ones shared stories about Brownlee, with her daughter attempting to deliver a speech but overcome with tears.

In addition to remembering Brownlee, the memorial also served as a platform to address broader societal challenges. The family has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise $5,000 for funeral expenses and is asking for donations from those who are able to contribute.

The tragic loss of Aziariah Brownlee has highlighted the urgent need for community action against violence. As friends and family remember her, they also call on the community to come together and work towards a safer and more peaceful future.
