Mount Pleasant Officer Injured in the Line of Duty Receives Support through Recovery Fund

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – A recovery fund has been established for Patrolman First Class Adam Blankenship, a Mount Pleasant officer who was injured while on duty. Blankenship was pursuing a suspect on Friday evening when he was hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross Hungry Neck Boulevard. He was immediately taken to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) for treatment.

The extent of Blankenship’s injuries from the crash is still unknown, but the police department has stated that he will require multiple medical procedures and surgeries during his recovery. In response, a fundraiser has been launched to support Blankenship and his family. The fundraiser, facilitated by Serve & Connect, a nonprofit organization that promotes positive change through police-community partnerships, aims to raise $15,000. As of Monday morning, the fundraiser had already accumulated over $14,000.

All the proceeds raised from the fundraiser will go directly towards supporting Blankenship and his family. Blankenship, who is also a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, joined the agency in March 2022 and is a graduate of The Citadel. He recently got married and lives in Mount Pleasant with his wife and their two dogs.

According to the Mount Pleasant PD, Blankenship was commended for his work ethic and positive engagement with students while working as a security officer at a local school. The incident leading to his injury occurred when officers attempted a traffic stop near Hungry Neck Boulevard and Venning Road. The suspect fled on foot, prompting Blankenship to give chase. Unfortunately, he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the roadway.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Dayvion Eddings, was eventually apprehended and charged with second-degree simple possession and resisting arrest. He was granted a $20,000 bond.
