The Nigerian Air Force has reported that air strikes conducted by the air component of Operation Whirl Punch in Niger State have resulted in the killing of a notorious terrorist leader called Yellow Janbros, along with other terrorists. The Air Force revealed that these terrorists were tracked from Zamfara to Niger State.

According to a statement by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, Janbros and his fighters were intercepted as they were about to cross the Jikudna River in Galadima Kogo District. They were heading towards the Wurukuvhi axis of Chikun LGA when they met their demise.

The statement further disclosed that the terrorists were travelling in a convoy of 18 motorcycles during daylight, possibly assuming that air strikes had been suspended following a recent accidental strike in Kaduna. However, the air strike carried out by Operation Whirl Punch on December 6, 2023, proved them wrong.

Gabkwet explained that Yellow Janbros and his cohorts had been trailed from Zamfara State into Niger State, riding 13 motorcycles along the Kaduna-Niger State border. At Kusasu in Shiroro LGA of Niger State, they were joined by five other motorcycle-riding terrorists, bringing the total number of motorcycles to 18. They then attempted to cross the Jikudna River in a large motor-powered canoe.

It was at this point that the authorization for the air strike was given. The precise strike successfully neutralized Yellow Janbros and his colleagues, destroyed their motorcycles, and sank the boat they were using for transportation.

Gabkwet emphasized that Yellow Janbros and his fighters were responsible for numerous atrocities along the Abuja-Kaduna road, as well as in other communities across Niger, Katsina, Kaduna, and Zamfara states. In fact, it was revealed that Yellow Janbros supplied fake military and police uniforms, guns, and other weapons to a notorious kidnapper named Mohammed Sani, who was arrested in Zamfara State for the murder of over 50 victims.
