Man Arrested for Hitting and Killing Bicyclist Nathan Smith in Lenoir, NC – WBTV

LENOIR, N.C. (WBTV) – A man has been arrested in Lenoir after a fatal collision involving a bicyclist on Sunday morning, as reported by the local police department.

The victim has been identified as Nathan Smith, a 36-year-old cyclist. The driver, Christopher Murillo, 27, has been charged with Felony Death by Vehicle and Driving While Impaired. Murillo was given a bond of $50,000.

The incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. on Hickory Boulevard near Countryside Drive Southwest. Both Smith and Murillo were traveling northbound on the road when Murillo collided with the back of Smith’s bicycle.

Tragically, Smith died on the scene as a result of the crash. Police investigations revealed that Murillo was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident. Following a field sobriety test, Murillo was apprehended without any resistance.
