One person has tragically lost their life in a car crash on Monroe Road in southeast Charlotte on Sunday night, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. The incident occurred near Mason Wallace Park around 9:30 p.m. The crash involved a 2007 Nissan Murano and a 2022 Mazda CX-5.
The driver of the Nissan, identified as 43-year-old Hector Domingo Medrano Orellana, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mazda sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the Mazda driver is expected to make a full recovery.

Preliminary investigations by CMPD suggest that Orellana was driving south on Monroe Road when he lost control of his vehicle, crossing the center line and colliding head-on with the Mazda. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, and it remains unclear whether impairment played a role.
