Brockton Man Dies in Hospital Following Fatal Shooting Incident
A Brockton man, Gelson Fernandes, who allegedly shot and killed a woman before turning the gun on himself, has died in a hospital, according to prosecutors. The incident occurred on the same day in Brockton, Massachusetts.

Fernandes, 29, had been sought by authorities after an arrest warrant was issued charging him with the murder of 22-year-old Stephanie Beatty from Norwich, Connecticut. The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office reported that Fernandes was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on Friday night.
After being taken to a Boston hospital for treatment on Saturday, Fernandes sadly passed away, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the DA’s office on Monday.
The victim, Stephanie Beatty, was fatally shot while sitting inside a car in the early hours of Friday morning. Fernandes was located on Nason Street, just a few hundred feet away from where the shooting took place.
Police were initially alerted to the incident after receiving a call about a shooting at 17 Nason St. at around 12:22 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Beatty inside a parked vehicle with a gunshot wound. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation, carried out by Brockton police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Plymouth County DA’s office, led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Fernandes on murder charges. The DA’s office stated that the victim and Fernandes were previously acquainted.
This incident marks the second fatal shooting in Brockton within a week. Marvin Hill, 35, was shot near 28 Lexington St. on Tuesday evening and subsequently died in a Boston hospital the following day. No arrests have been made in connection with Hill’s murder.
