Bigfork Woman Killed and Two Others Injured in Ferndale Shooting: Suspect in Custody

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) – A tragic incident unfolded in Ferndale, Lake County on Sunday night, resulting in one woman dead and two others injured. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance call just after 9:00 p.m.

According to Sheriff Don Bell, the incident occurred at a residence on Cayuse Lane. Shortly after the initial report, a man called 9-1-1, stating that he had been shot by the suspect, identified as Matthew Vitek, a 49-year-old resident of Bigfork. Vitek was apprehended by Lake County authorities.

First aid was administered to the three victims by Flathead County Sheriff’s deputies. Sadly, 56-year-old Tammi Jordan from Bigfork succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The identities of the other two victims have not been released, but Sheriff Bell confirmed that they are in stable condition as of Monday morning.

The deceased victim has been transported to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula for an autopsy.

Matthew Vitek is currently in custody at the Lake County Jail and is facing charges of deliberate homicide and attempted deliberate homicide.
