After eluding capture for more than 11 months, the police have finally apprehended a 24-year-old man in connection with the brutal murder of a delivery boy in Mira Road on January 30, 2023.

The horrific crime originated from a minor altercation between the victim’s uncle, Ankush Raj (20), and a group of individuals over queue jumping at a petrol station in Kashimira. Ankush, a resident of Queens Park in Mira Road, worked as a delivery boy for an e-commerce company.

Investigations have revealed that Ankush’s uncle, Harsh Raj, engaged in a heated argument with a man named Ayush over breaking the queue at the petrol station. The deceased intervened in an attempt to defuse the situation. Infuriated by the confrontation and feeling humiliated, Ayush called his friends for backup and went in search of Harsh Raj to seek revenge. However, they mistook Ankush for his uncle near Jangid Circle and brutally assaulted him with choppers and swords, resulting in his untimely demise.

While 11 of the assailants were swiftly apprehended within four hours of the crime, three of their accomplices managed to evade capture. However, the dedicated crime detection team received a tip-off that one of the fugitives, identified as Rohit Paswan (24), would be meeting a relative near Chene bridge in Kashimira.

Under the guidance of senior police inspector Chandrakant Sarode, the team, led by police inspector Rahukumar Patil, laid a trap and successfully arrested Paswan on Saturday. Hailing from Bharatpur in Rajasthan, the deceased had only recently arrived in the city and secured the job as a delivery boy just a month before his tragic murder.

All the accused, who either work as delivery men or are students, have been charged under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act. The case has been registered at the Mira Road police station.
