VINEYARD — A group of bystanders, including two individuals from Utah, successfully prevented a 26-year-old woman from setting fire to the birth home of Martin Luther King Jr. on Thursday evening. This incident has garnered national attention and highlights the importance of their actions.
Bryce Gandy, one of the witnesses, explained that he and his co-worker, Zach Kempf, were in Atlanta for work when they decided to explore the city. They took a photo outside the closed home when they noticed a young woman approaching carrying a gas can. Initially assuming she was a maintenance worker, they soon realized she was attempting to enter the property and pouring gasoline inside.

Kempf bravely blocked her path to the house, preventing her from igniting the steps. Gandy then called for assistance from two former NYPD officers who happened to be nearby. These individuals, Kenny and Axel Dodson, were commended for their heroic efforts by the NYPD.
Reflecting on the incident, Gandy expressed gratitude that he and Kempf were in the right place at the right time. He described the situation as a “miracle” and emphasized the significance of preserving historical landmarks such as the birth home of Martin Luther King Jr.
The woman, identified as Laneisha Henderson, is facing charges of second-degree arson and interfering with government property. It has been reported that she is also dealing with mental illness. Gandy expressed hope that she receives the help she needs, and he extended his sympathy to her and her family.
He further emphasized that the true heroes are those who can provide the necessary support to individuals like Henderson, as they play a crucial role in making the world a better place.
