A 19-year-old medical student, Harshal Mahale, studying MBBS at a private college in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, has taken his own life, allegedly due to mental harassment and ragging by his three roommates at the hostel. The local police have registered a case under section 306 (abetment to suicide) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code against the accused, based on the complaint filed by Harshal’s parents.

According to the police, Harshal was found hanging in his hostel room on December 1. Several days later, his grief-stricken parents discovered a suicide note penned by their son, in which he accused his roommates of subjecting him to mental torture and harassment. Harshal’s note also demanded strict action against his tormentors.
