WALTHAM, UK – The Waltham Police Department in Massachusetts is witnessing a growing memorial outside its premises after a tragic accident that claimed the lives of a police officer and a National Grid worker. The incident has resulted in criminal charges against the driver responsible for the crash.
The local community has been deeply affected by the loss and has been visiting the memorial to pay their respects. The suspect, Peter Simon, a resident of Woodsville, New Hampshire, was arraigned on multiple charges, including two counts of manslaughter and stealing a police cruiser.

Residents who spoke to reporters expressed their sadness and anger over the tragic incident. One resident shared their condolences for officer Paul Tracey, 58, and expressed sympathy for his wife and children.
According to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Simon was driving a pickup truck on Totten Pond Road when he attempted to make a U-turn. However, in the process, he collided with another vehicle. He then continued driving and struck the Waltham police officer and a National Grid worker.
Officer Tracey was working a roadside detail at the time of the accident. The National Grid worker who lost his life in the incident has been identified as Roderick Jackson. Two other National Grid workers sustained injuries in the crash.
After the collision, Simon abandoned his truck and fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood. There, he encountered another Waltham police officer, pulled out a knife, and stole the officer’s cruiser before fleeing the scene. The pursuit came to an end when Simon crashed the stolen cruiser on Winter Street in Waltham. He was subsequently apprehended by the police.

The incident has left the community in shock and mourning. The memorial outside the Waltham Police Department continues to grow as residents come together to honor the lives lost.
