Surat chemical fire victims” : “Surat Police Hand Over Bodies of Deceased Labourers in Chemical Plant Fire Tragedy to Families

The Surat police have handed over the bodies of the seven labourers who went missing after a fire broke out at a chemical plant in Surat to their families for final rites. The bodies were recovered from the site a day after the fire broke out at the manufacturing site of Aether Industries in Sachin GIDC on November 29.

The deceased have been identified as Divyeshkumar Patel from Navsari, as well as Santosh Vishwakarma, Sanat Kumar Mishra, Dharmendra Kumar, Ganesh Prasad, Sunil Kumar, and Abhishek Singh, all residents of Pandesara. They were natives of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Initially, the bodies could not be identified, so blood samples from each were matched with samples taken from the family members of the missing labourers at the Surat forensic science laboratory (FSL). On Friday, the FSL handed over the reports to the police, confirming the identities of the deceased.

Sachin GIDC police Inspector J R Chaudhary stated that the blood samples matched with those of the missing labourers, and the bodies have now been handed over to their families for final rites.

In addition to the seven labourers, another injured labourer, Pramod Madan Gautam, who was injured in the fire, has also succumbed, taking the total death toll to eight.

Chaudhary also mentioned that Aether Industries had announced a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the families of each of the deceased. 50% of the amount will be paid to the children, with the rest going to the wives of the deceased. In the case of unmarried labourers, the entire amount will be given to their parents.

The police have registered an offence of accidental death in relation to the incident. The investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing.
