Two sisters have been tragically killed in a head-on car crash in Kent County, Michigan. The victims have been identified as Anna (Garza) Fegel, 42, and Jessica Garza, 39. The sisters were the driver and front seat passenger, respectively, in the fatal accident that occurred in Lowell Township on Wednesday, December 6.
According to Kent County Sgt. Eric Brunner, the sisters were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Fegel’s children, aged 4 and 11, who were in the back seats of the car, were also injured and were hospitalized. However, they are now said to be in stable condition and are recovering well. Another passenger, a 36-year-old individual, who was airlifted to the hospital, is in a serious but stable condition.

The crash took place at the intersection of Alden Nash Avenue and Emery Drive at around 5:15 p.m. First responders had to block off the area for over three hours while they investigated and cleared the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest that a white Chevrolet Equinox traveling southbound on Alden Nash crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and collided with a black Buick Encore coming from the opposite direction.
The driver of the Buick, a 20-year-old woman from Greenville, was also seriously injured and transported to an area hospital. Police are still trying to determine the cause of the accident, but they have mentioned that the lack of seatbelt usage may have played a role in the fatalities.
Anna Fegel was from Belding, while Jessica Garza hailed from Lowell. In the wake of this tragedy, a GoFundMe donation page has been set up to support the families of the two sisters. The page describes them as “pillars of love, joy, and kindness in life.” As of now, the fundraising campaign has raised over $7,500 for the grieving family.
