“Pune women drown in sea near Devgad” : Four Young Women from Pune Identified as Victims in Devgad Drowning Incident

Four young women from Pune tragically drowned in the sea near Devgad in the Sindhudurg district on Saturday afternoon. The victims have been identified as Prerna Dongre, Ankita Gaalte, Anisha Padwal, and Payal Bansode.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police Krushikesh Rawale, the deceased were part of a group of 36 youngsters from the Sankalp Training Academy in Nigdi who were on a picnic. They had stayed in Malvan on Friday and arrived at Devgad beach on Saturday. However, they chose to enter a dangerous section of the sea, despite warnings from lifeguards.

At around 3:30 pm, the police received information that six youngsters were drowning. Lifeguards, along with the local police and district administration, immediately initiated a rescue operation. One of the youngsters, Akash Tupe, was successfully rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Sadly, the bodies of four young women were discovered later. The search is still ongoing for one more person, identified as Ram Dicholkar.

Ramesh Pawar, the tehsildar of Devgad, confirmed the tragic incident and stated that the four women, aged between 18 and 24, lost their lives. He also mentioned that the lifeguards attached to the coastal police had already warned the group about the dangers of entering the sea.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to safety guidelines and listening to the advice of trained professionals. The police have initiated an investigation into the incident to determine the exact circumstances leading to the tragedy.
