A video has emerged on social media showing people rushing to extinguish a fire in the Gaza Strip. Journalist Hossam Shabat captured the footage and shared it on X, formerly known as Twitter. The incident is one of many similar reports of smoke bombs being used across several parts of the region, particularly in its northern area, where hundreds of thousands of civilians reside. Palestinian photojournalist Mahmoud Abusalama stated that Israeli troops had been shelling the Jabalia refugee camp, using gas and smoke bombs. He added that “children and women are suffocating in their homes.”

Overnight, Israeli fighter jets intensified their airstrikes in various parts of the besieged strip, including Gaza City and Beit Lahia in the north. Areas such as Deir al-Balah and Nuseirat refugee camp in the center, as well as Khan Younis and Rafah in the south, were also targeted. This escalation follows the start of the war on Gaza on October 7, initiated by the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas in response to the Israeli regime’s ongoing campaign of violence against Palestinians.

The Israeli strikes have resulted in a significant loss of life, with at least 17,177 Palestinians killed, predominantly women and children. Among those killed is Refaat Alareer, a founder of the ‘We Are Not Numbers’ project and a professor at the Islamic University of Gaza.

The fighting continues in the besieged Strip, with Hamas dealing heavy blows to the invading Israeli forces. The Hamas military wing, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, reported foiling an Israeli attempt to free a captured soldier held by the group. Palestinian fighters clashed with the Israeli force, resulting in the death of the soldier. Israeli sources also reported the “mistaken” killing of an Israeli soldier by a combat helicopter.

Israel’s military announced the death of Gadi Eisenkot’s son, a member of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s war cabinet, in northern Gaza. Unofficial figures suggest that at least 94 Israeli soldiers and officers have been killed since the ground invasion of Gaza began in late October.
