Hyderabad: The Tandur police have arrested a man accused of murdering seven people over a span of 38 years. The suspect, identified as Kishtaiah, was apprehended on Friday for the murder of his seventh victim, who went missing from Vikarabad on November 29. The motive behind the killing was allegedly a meagre sum of Rs 1,000.

According to the authorities, Kishtaiah had been on a killing spree since 1985, primarily targeting women and robbing them. Shockingly, he had been released from jail in September due to a lack of evidence, after spending two years behind bars. His modus operandi involved luring women with the promise of employment, offering them toddy, and then brutally murdering them, even for small amounts of money.

The police became suspicious of Kishtaiah during the investigation into the disappearance of Sarvabhi on November 29. CCTV footage revealed the victim waiting at Shanthi Mahal X Roads and engaging in conversation with Kishtaiah. The footage showed them heading towards Indira Chowk, leading to his arrest.

During interrogation, Kishtaiah admitted to not only the murder of Sarvabhi but also to six other killings. He revealed that he and Sarvabhi traveled to Tattepalli, where he allegedly strangled her with her saree and stole her silver anklets, Rs 1,000 in cash, and her mobile phone.

Kishtaiah had been previously arrested on March 21, 2021, for the murder of a woman who worked as a daily wage laborer. His wife was also charged with possessing stolen property at that time. Kishtaiah had reportedly promised the woman employment, took her with him, made her consume toddy midway, and then allegedly strangled her in a mango garden, stealing her valuables.

Authorities discovered that Kishtaiah, a daily wage laborer, was a serial killer driven by financial gain. He had reportedly killed a person for as little as Rs 1,500. Since 1985, he has allegedly committed six murders, with cases registered in Vikarabad, Yalala, Dharoor, and Tandur. Police suspect there may be more victims in neighboring districts.
