Two shooters linked to the Goldy Brar-Lawrence Bishnoi gang have been arrested by the Delhi police for firing shots outside the residence of former Punjab MLA and liquor baron Deep Malhotra in Punjabi Bagh, West Delhi. The incident took place on December 3 and the shooters have been identified as Aakash alias Kassa and Nitesh alias Sinti.
According to officials, this is not the first such incident. In 2020, two similar incidents occurred where the Bishnoi gang targeted the house of hotelier Rakesh Singla and a liquor vend. In both cases, the gang claimed responsibility, but it was later revealed that they had mistaken the targets due to a case of mistaken identity.

The police officer investigating the case revealed that the extortion business is not solely dominated by the Bishnoi gang, as rival gangs are also actively involved. In March this year, members of the Devinder Bambhia gang, operated by fugitive Lucky Patial, were arrested for making threatening calls to businessmen, hoteliers, and liquor contractors. Devinder Bambhia himself was killed in a police encounter in Punjab in 2016.
Gang wars related to extortion have led to violent incidents in the past. In September 2019, local financer Rajveer alias Sonu Shah was killed by hired shooters from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The competition between gangs in the extortion business has escalated into conflicts, resulting in arrests and ongoing legal cases.
In November 2022, security was heightened around the residence of Punjabi singer Babbu Maan in Mohali due to threatening calls for money from international numbers.
SP (Crime) Ketan Bansal stated that whenever complaints of extortion are received, FIRs are lodged. He also mentioned that information about shooters and criminals is exchanged with counterparts in Punjab police, Haryana police, and Delhi police.

The arrest of the two shooters is a step towards curbing the activities of the Goldy Brar-Lawrence Bishnoi gang and maintaining law and order in the area. The police will continue their efforts to dismantle the gang and prevent further incidents of violence and extortion.
