Man Charged After Fatal Attack on Cousins in Brooklyn
A 33-year-old for-hire driver has been arrested and charged following a violent attack on two cousins in Brooklyn, which resulted in the death of one of them. Sergio Zamora-Mendoza is facing charges of manslaughter, as well as assault in the second and third degree.

The incident took place on Thursday morning on West 9th Street, where Zamora-Mendoza had picked up the cousins. A dispute arose over the fare when the passengers admitted they didn’t have enough money to pay. Police say Zamora-Mendoza then attacked the men, causing severe facial injuries and head trauma.
Emergency services were called to the scene and found the victims bleeding in front of their home. Both men were rushed to Maimonides Hospital in critical condition. Sadly, a 66-year-old man, later identified as Carlos Guaman, succumbed to his injuries and passed away just 45 minutes after arriving at the hospital.
According to the surviving cousin, who was heavily intoxicated at the time, he was unable to recall what happened or how he ended up at the scene of the attack. Officers reviewed surveillance footage from a doorbell camera, which reportedly showed the victims exiting the vehicle before the driver also exited and began assaulting them.
It remains unclear whether a weapon was used during the attack. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
