Woman Found Guilty of Manslaughter and Assault in Shooting Death of Justin Lee Williams on Thanksgiving 2022

Portland, Oregon – A woman has been found guilty of manslaughter and assault after a shooting incident on Thanksgiving in 2022, according to court records. Barbara Marie Michelle was convicted of first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and DUI. However, she was acquitted of second-degree murder charges.

The incident occurred in the early hours of November 24, 2022, when police responded to a shooting report on North Lombard Street. They discovered Justin Lee Williams, 41, with a gunshot wound to his torso. Williams was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries two days later.

In a separate incident nearby, officers also responded to a car crash and arrested Barbara Marie Michelle, who was 43 at the time. Initially, she was booked on charges of first-degree assault related to domestic violence. However, after Williams’ death, Michelle also faced homicide charges.

The trial concluded with a Multnomah County jury finding Michelle guilty of manslaughter and assault but not guilty of murder. She is now awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled for December 12.

This unfortunate incident follows a recent spate of violent crimes in the Portland area. Just last week, an 18-year-old was arrested in connection with a deadly shooting at a bar in Southeast Portland. The community is grappling with a surge in crime, and incidents like these have left residents concerned for their safety.
